This year marked the 40th year for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. To celebrate, Charleston Southern University is hosting a Relay for Life event this month. Tricia Bantz, a Senior Development Manager with the American Cancer Society provided the history behind the “Relay” events, and gave the specifics on the Friday, March 21st Relay for Life. Bantz described how the event worked and discussed how the money raised would impact those dealing with cancer, and the importance of survivors and caregivers in each Relay event. Bantz also gave insight on some ways the Cancer Society helps those impacted that most people, even patients, aren’t aware.

SEGMENT #2: Doors to Dream
GUEST: Sam Clements, Executive Director
ISSUE: Youth Development
This April, the 3rd annual Charleston’s Got Talent competition will be held at the Charleston Music Farm.  The event is put on by and benefits the non-profit Doors to Dream. Sam Clements is the Executive Director of Doors to Dream and explained how the organization was founded and what its purpose is. Doors to Dream strives to equip students in Title I schools with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to chase their dreams through educational programs, service opportunities, and awareness trips in the Charleston community. Clements share ways the non-profit recruits both students and parents to the program, and ways they work with both to further their lifetime opportunities.
