Each summer, South Carolina’s Premiere, and largest, flower show is held at Exchange Park in Ladson. This year, “Smiling Faces, Beautiful Places” is the theme of the Council of Garden Clubs of Greater Charleston’s event on August 2 and 3. Trish Bender is a Council of Garden Club member and explained that the organization is a nonprofit that helps to beautify the Lowcountry through a number of programs. It has 19 local chapters and has worked with the Exchange Club on this show for the better part of 50 years. Bender provided specific details on the two days the show is open to the public, as well as describing the competition part of the show, which occurs two days prior to the public portion of the show.

GUEST: Jeb Kristoff, WCBD-TV Meteorologist
ISSUE: Hurricane Preparedness
Hurricane season is underway, a time for preparation across the Lowcountry. To get listeners ready, Meteorologist Jeb Kristoff with WCBD-TV talked about the predictions for this year’s Atlantic Hurricane season, which runs through November 1. Kristoff broke down the various terms surrounding the storms, providing the difference between a Tropical Depression, Storm and the 5 levels of a Hurricane. He also shared the difference between what a watch is what a warning is. In addition, the meteorologist gave some specific things that Lowcountry residents should be doing now to make certain they are prepared when a major storm is approaching. Kristoff also let us in on what happens behind the scenes as a storm approaches, and their strategy to keep viewers in the know.
