Silver Dollar to Close After More Than 26 Years on King Street – Holy City Sinner

After more than 26 years on King Street, Silver Dollar will close its doors for good on Sunday, Aug. 23.

Opened in December 1999 by owner Steve Sher at 478 King St., the bar – known simply as “the Dollar” to its regulars – became a longtime fixture of Charleston nightlife.

“For more than 26 years, this bar has been my second home, and it’s become home to countless people who made it part of their lives,” Sher said. “We’ve watched Charleston grow, celebrated milestones, mourned losses, made lifelong friends, and shared more incredible nights than I could ever count.
