Talked about this a few months ago as a thing I loved. It was a gift for my dad, which ultimately ends up being a gift for me and my siblings. He gets asked a question weekly and responds. At the end of the year it is all compiled in a table book for us.
Dad finally started answering questions! Here’s one of the stories that will go in the book.
“Which fads did you embrace while growing up?”
My formative high school years were in the mid 1970’s. The chaos and revolution of the late 60’s lost luster and faded. The preppies and disco era of the late 70’s were still a few years away. I played football, worked at the TurnStyle, a precursor to Walmart, and went to high school from 1971-1975. I associated with all the different groups in high school stoners, jocks, and in-crowd; however, I mainly stayed on fringe of each group. Many of my friends from grade school and junior high were in the different groups and I associated with all. My high school years influenced my embracing fads in later years. I stayed on the fringes of the fads and do not drink the Kool-Aid quickly. I may be skeptical or cautious because of the influence of my formative years. Fads are for folks looking to belong and be part of something. I am not sure if it was because I was a middle child, an independent thinker, or a skeptic but I cannot recall a fad I embraced growing up.
