Because you won’t spend every waking minute this holiday unwrapping socks from your mom – and you might need a break from Uncle Ned’s rant about the current political climate, Jay Shadix has compiled the ultimate list of alternative entertainment choices.

From kid-friendly to dark drama, this is the only countdown you’ll need to sail into the new year with that too-much-screen-time twinkle in your eye. So, pour yourself a mug of that spiked ‘nog and prepare to work your way down the expert’s hand-selected menu of binge-worthy entertainment.

Merry Binge-ing!

10. Adam Ruins Everything on Netflix
As a know-it-all type myself, I love this show’s comedic take that completely challenges everything you’ve ever learned or believed to be the truth. New episodes run on TruTV, but Netflix is the place to binge the show.

09. Ozark on Netflix
Actor Jason Bateman always seems to play the doormat good guy, but not this time. Binge the first two seasons now so you’re ready when the third drops in early 2020.

08. Living With Yourself on Netflix
It’s hard to describe this show without giving too much away. But I will say that Paul Rudd plays two versions of the same character. It will make you question what would happen if you came face to face with the best version of yourself.

07. The Boys on Amazon Prime
Find out what happens when superheroes, who are as popular as celebrities abuse their superpowers rather than use them for good. Now is the perfect time to binge the first season with the new episodes coming mid-2020.

06. Lost in Space on Netflix
It’s a family friendly, action packed sci fi remake with great special effects that they never could have dreamed of on the 1960s original. Now is the perfect time to jump in with the second season just coming out.

05. The Movies That Made Us on Netflix
As an actor myself, I love behind the scenes stuff. But this show goes deeper by telling the story of how some of your favorite movies almost didn’t happen. From Dirty Dancing to Die Hard, you’ll love the off-camera drama.

04. The World According to Jeff Goldblum on Disney+
It’s a docuseries featuring the star’s very odd takes on seemingly ordinary things. Only a few episodes have come out so far, but I’m telling you he is the real most interesting man in the world. Although I’m not sure I could handle all of his weirdness in person.

03. The Mandalorian on Disney+
Star Wars nerds like me love this series about a lone gunfighter making his way through the lawless galaxy after the fall of the Empire. Plus, Baby Yoda. It’s set after Darth Vader’s death in Return of the Jedi and before we meet Rey and Kylo Ren in The Force Awakens.

02. Righteous Gemstones on HBO
This one was filmed right here in the Lowcountry with John Goodman playing the head of a celebrity televangelist family. Blink and you’ll miss my appearance as a camera man in the Easter episode, but you can clearly see me as a cowboy in the back row of a tent revival in the season finale.

01. Reprisal on Hulu
I didn’t just make this show my number one pick because I play a bartender in 2 scenes. But, mostly because of that. It’s got a very cool retro 50s vibe and was produced by the same people that did The Handmaid’s Tale. See if you can spot me in episodes 3 and 5.

Oscars preview: Producers tease ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ and ‘Sinners’ celebrations

The producers behind the 98th Academy Awards have set out to celebrate not just the hit song "Golden" from "KPop Demon Hunters", but the cultural phenomenon of the film itself. That logic is why the only other nominated song that will get a moment on the broadcast is "I Lied to You," from "Sinners," a blockbuster hit and the most-nominated film of all time.
